Privacy policy

This policy covers the website at acgreentransition.com. It explains what the site collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. If anything here is unclear, write to [email protected] and we will explain it in plain words.

Two things are worth stating up front. Nothing is loaded from a third party unless you ask for it: the fonts are served from our own domain, there are no social widgets and no embedded video. And the analytics described below stay switched off unless you accept them.

Who is responsible for your data

Abhay Chatterjee Consultancy LLP, trading as AC Green Transition, is the data controller (the term used in the EU and UK) and the data fiduciary (the term used in India). What this site collects

When you simply read a page

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server, it receives your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, your browser's user-agent string and the referring page, and Cloudflare processes these to deliver the page and to protect the site from attack and abuse. We do not build profiles from these records and we do not receive a per-visitor report of them. This happens for every visitor and cannot be switched off, because a web server cannot answer a request it has not received.

When you use the contact form

The form in the footer of every page asks for your name, your email address, your company (optional) and your message. Those four fields are what we get; we do not attach your IP address or browsing history to them. The form is submitted to a function on our own domain, which passes it to Resend, an email delivery service, which sends it to our inbox. There is also one hidden field that must stay empty; it exists to catch automated spam and is never used to identify you.

Please do not put confidential commercial data, personal data about other people, or anything you would not want sitting in an email inbox into the message field. A first conversation does not need it, and when an engagement starts we agree a proper route for data instead.

When you accept analytics

If, and only if, you press Accept on the consent banner, the site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-085JKH8HQV) from Google. It records which pages are opened, roughly where in the world the visit came from, the type of device and browser, and how visitors move between pages. We use it to see which articles and services people actually read, so that we write more of what is useful.

Google Analytics 4 does not report individual IP addresses to us; it uses the address to derive a coarse location and then discards it. We have not enabled advertising features, Google Signals or data sharing for advertising purposes on this property, and we do not use the site for advertising or remarketing.

Until you accept, no request is made to Google at all. If you decline, or accept and later change your mind, the tag is switched off and the analytics cookies described below are deleted from your browser. You can change your answer at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.

A change takes effect as soon as you make it. Accepting starts analytics on the page you are already reading, and withdrawing stops the tag and deletes its cookies straight away. One detail is worth knowing: withdrawing does not remove the script Google has already loaded into that page. It is switched off and sends nothing further, but it stays in the page until you reload or move to another one. Reload if you would rather have the page rebuilt without it. Every page you open afterwards loads without it in any case.

What is stored in your browser

Three kinds of small storage are used, and only the third depends on your consent.

• Theme preference: a browser storage entry named theme, holding the word light or dark, so the site opens in the appearance you chose. It never leaves your browser.
• Your consent answer: a browser storage entry named analytics-consent, holding the word granted or denied, so that you are not asked again on every page. It never leaves your browser, and it is written whichever way you answer, including when you decline: storing a refusal is the only way to honour it.
• Google Analytics cookies: _ga and _ga_G-085JKH8HQV, set only once you have accepted. They distinguish one visitor from another and hold a session together. Google's documented lifetime for these is two years. Declining, or withdrawing consent later, deletes them.

Clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes all three. If that removes your consent answer, the banner will ask again.

Why we are allowed to process it

Under the GDPR, which applies to visitors in the EU and the UK: server logs and security processing rest on our legitimate interest in delivering and defending the site; answering your enquiry rests on the steps taken at your request before any contract, and on our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us; analytics rests on your consent, which is why nothing loads before you give it and why withdrawing it is as easy as giving it.

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the message you send us is personal data you provide voluntarily for a stated purpose, namely that we read it and reply. Analytics is used only where you have consented to it.

Who else sees it

Four parties process data on our behalf. There are no others, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal data to anybody.

• Cloudflare: hosting, content delivery and protection for the site.
• Resend: delivery of contact form submissions to our inbox.
• Google: the mailbox that receives enquiries, and Google Analytics where you have accepted it.
• Professional advisers and authorities: only where the law requires disclosure.

Where your data goes

We are based in India. Cloudflare, Resend and Google operate globally, so data handled by them may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where the GDPR applies, those transfers rely on the mechanisms those providers publish, principally the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and, for certified US recipients, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We do not transfer personal data to any country to which such transfers are restricted by the Indian government.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and the correspondence that follows are kept while the conversation is live, and afterwards as an ordinary business record; they are deleted when they no longer serve either purpose, or when you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. Hosting and security logs are kept for the period Cloudflare applies to them, which is short and measured in days. Analytics data is kept for the retention period set on our Google Analytics property, which is Google's default of 14 months from a visitor's last activity. Browser storage lasts as described above, or until you clear it.

Your rights

Whichever law applies to you, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to or ask us to restrict what we do with it. In practice, for most people reading this, what we hold is an email thread, and one message to [email protected] is enough to have it sent to you or erased. We answer within 30 days.

For analytics you do not need to ask us at all: use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you are in the EU or the UK you may also complain to your national data protection authority. In India you may raise a grievance with us first, and then with the Data Protection Board of India if we have not resolved it.

Children

This is a site about industrial sustainability work and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. A change that widens what we collect, or why, will be reflected in the consent banner, so that a consent given under the old wording is not read as consent to the new.
